Here's Your Sign, That It's Time to Remodel Your Kitchen Here's Your Sign, That It's Time to Remodel Your Kitchen

So, you’ve been thinking about remodeling your kitchen. But, you continually put it off, wondering if it’s genuinely worth the money, work, and time. And then you go to your sister-in-law’s for a holiday dinner.

As you and your family walk through the front door, a cornucopia of delicious cooking smells greets you. You don’t remember much good coming out of her cold, sterile kitchen at all. She casually mentions that “the (they’ve) just remodeled, and love the new kitchen!”

Trying to keep your jealousy in check, you cautiously enter the new kitchen. Wow. You swear the marble countertops and stainless steel fridge are faintly glowing.

The new, dark wood kitchen cabinets serve as a backdrop of warmth that you’ve never felt in this house before. And, is that a choir of angels faintly singing in the background?  You make a mental note to start on your own remodel as soon as possible.

Without that urgent prompting, how else can you discern when you need a new look and feel in your kitchen? Designer Kitchens of Colorado Springs is here to help! Below are five signs that it is time to remodel your kitchen!

1. Your Old Appliances are Energy Zappers

When considering your kitchen remodel, it’s vital to look at the age of your appliances. If you live in an older neighborhood in Colorado Springs (such as the Old North End or Old Colorado City areas) and dwell in an appliance-ready home purchased based on the historic architecture, chances are your appliances are over thirty years old.

1992 is the year that the government began the Energy Star program to create a more energy-efficient America. While this program affects commercial buildings and Fortune 500 companies, it also impacts every household in the U.S.

Appliances (such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and ovens) marked with the Energy Star utilize less energy and therefore save the consumer money on utilities. You may love your old fridge from the 90s or eariler, but it ultimately costs you more than a modern Energy Star fridge will cost.

2. Your Family is Expanding

If your family has exponentially grown since you first moved into your home, then it’s probably time to remodel your kitchen. As you have children, your need for space increases. Tupperware and bottle collections can grow past your existing cabinet space.

However, this doesn’t necessarily beg for a kitchen re-gutting or extension. For instance, you can reutilize open spaces beneath countertops to extend cabinet space or build drawers. Choose designs that flow with the rest of your kitchen to maximize value.

3. A Cold Heart

When the center of your home is cold and drab, it’s time to remodel your kitchen. In the restaurant industry, the kitchen is “the heart of the house.” This term resounds in a personal home as well.

In most designs, the kitchen is the center of the home. This room is often where family and friends gather to socialize, cook, and share meals. If the “heart” is cold, it can be underutilized and can affect the feel of the rest of your house.

4. Add Value to Your Home

A great kitchen remodel adds value to your home.  An up-to-date kitchen rates only behind refurbished pipes and roofs in increasing the retail value of your home. New appliances, countertops, tile, cabinets, and paint all enhance a home’s worth.

Whether you are planning on selling your home in the next few years, or are just looking to have it appraised, modernizing your kitchen via a remodel will considerably raise the asking price.

5. Enhance the Flow of Your Home

It’s time to remodel your kitchen if it currently does not fit the flow of your home. If you have spent time decorating adjoining rooms (such as the dining, family, and living spaces), but have not given the kitchen the same personal touch, it feels disjointed.

By lavishing your kitchen remodel with love and care, you allow it to fit in with the rest of your warm and beautiful living spaces. If there is a design theme throughout the rest of your home, continue it in the kitchen. And, pay attention to color themes and décor as you refurbish and repaint.

If you don’t feel “at home” in this great room, you may be ready to remodel your kitchen. A kitchen remodel can generate fun, and this project will both enhance your quality of life, and add to the value of your home!
